Suture Pro
“Strong as Suture, Fast as Tacking”
Semi-automation device for laparoscopic and robotic ventral hernia repair
Operating room (OR) time costs for ventral hernia repair in the United States typically range from $75-$100 per minute. A substantial part of this operative time is devoted to mesh fixation, which is a critical but time-consuming step in the repair process. Optimizing and streamlining mesh fixation techniques has the potential to reduce overall operative duration, thus markedly reducing costs to hospitals and surgical practices.
Suture Pro’s goal is to reduce operative time by automating mesh fixation during open, robotic, or laparoscopic ventral hernia repair. Secondarily, it aims to standardize the task with uniform stitch placement, consistent stitch-to-stitch spacing, and a reproducible workflow.
Next-Generation Semi-Automated Suturing for Hernia Repair
Suture Pro is an automated suturing device designed for open, laparoscopic, and robotic ventral hernia repair. The open and laparoscopic prototypes (pictured) have proven effectiveness and the technology has been accepted to SAGES as an emerging technology abstract for 2026. A robotic prototype is in early development.
